Meet Thomas Whitsitt

After clerking for the Honorable Judge William Garrard at the Indiana Court of Appeals, Tom Whitsitt opened his private practice in 1974 in Lebanon, Indiana. Over the decades, he has built a diverse legal career, focusing on family law, criminal defense, estate planning, business consultation, litigation, municipal law, and real estate. From 1975 to 1978, he also served part-time as Boone County Chief Deputy Prosecutor. In 2024, Tom joined Taylor, Minnette, Schneider & Clutter as an Of Counsel member, bringing his extensive experience and wisdom to the firm’s clients.

Tom earned his B.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1968, and his J.D., Cum Laude, from the Indiana School of Law–Indianapolis in 1974. He is admitted to practice in Indiana and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Active in the legal community, Tom is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association Family Law Section, and the Boone County Bar Association, where he has served as president. He also serves on the Indiana Supreme Court Character and Fitness Committee.

Beyond his legal work, Tom has long been dedicated to community service. He has served as president of the Lebanon Public Library Board and the Lebanon Parks Board, helped establish Habitat for Humanity of Boone County in 1984, and continues to serve on the Oak Hill Cemetery Board. In his free time, he enjoys reading, birding, carving, and fly-fishing in Wyoming. Tom and his wife, Chris, live in Lebanon with their golden retriever, small spaniel, and cat, and they are proud parents of two adult children, grandparents to five grandchildren, and great-grandparents to one great-grandchild.
